Once women started joining the workforce, they suddenly saw their rights to provide economically for a family taken away and shamed. In society 's eyes, women were meant to stay home, cook, clean, and take care of the children. This domestic role was not favored by women. In the nineteen sixties women were considered to be inferior to men and therefore had to do everything that they requested. The feminist movement changed this view of women, but because the United States still has a patriarchal society it is still an issue.

In her book, Transforming a Rape Culture, Emilie Buchwald explains that a rape culture is created once society as a whole begins to, in a way, support and normalize sexual violence. It is a society where violence is seen as sexy and sexuality as violent. In fact, within a rape culture, sexual violence as a whole is viewed as inevitable. With this given information emerges the question of whether or not toxic masculinity is what perpetuates rape culture within the different societies it is found in.

Many of us see violence against women as a figure or statistic, right? Anna, a year-old woman, was in a relationship where she was sexually and physically harassed. Her partner belted her so hard that she lost partial hearing in one ear and was raped straight after. The issue of this type of toxic masculinity is consistently seen throughout Romeo and Juliet, as comments made by male characters show the violence women faced in the Elizabethan era. Not only does it have psychological effects and health problems, but is also a matter of life or death.

I have started this course as a free course, as I dont know the course would be completed by me or not.
For me, this might have been the most challenging course of the Creative Writing Specialization in that it targeted one of my weaknesses as a writer, but the assignments tested me and helped me to hone the craft of description (and setting).
