When a coworker goes above and beyond the call of duty, you might want to do a little more than just give them a pat on the back for their efforts. One way to recognize a job well done is to write a letter of commendation addressed to a manager or other authority figure that could result in a formal award, a raise, or another type of reward for the employee. In some cases, a commendation letter is part of a formal process by which a person gets promoted or receives an award. The organization granting the award or promotion may require the letter to be in a certain format, addressed to specific people, or include details such as the person's dates of service and formal title or rank.
